On their standard Buildings cover AVIVA provides you with alternative accommodation if your home becomes uninhabitable due to any damage. For alternative accommodation, they provide £80 000 or 20% of the building’s sum insured if it is higher than £80 000.
Building Insurance – claim back any rent due from lodgers
If you have any lodgers in your home and they are no longer able to live there because of the damage to your home. AVIVA will pay you any rent income due from them. Or AVIVA will cover any reasonable alternative accommodation cost for your lodger (and pets). If they are not covered themselves by their own insurance for this. They provide £80 000 or 20% of the building’s sum insured if it is higher than £80 000.
Buildings Insurance – tracing and accessing leaks
If your home has any water leaks, AVIVA will pay a reasonable amount to trace and find the leak and to fix the leak and structure of building if necessary. They will pay up to £5 000.
Buildings Insurance – replacement locks
AVIVA will replace keys and locks to external doors as part of the standard cover. They will pay up to a £1 000.
Buildings Insurance – your liability to the public
AVIVA’s standard building cover will also cover you from any liabilities from the public, as the home owner.
Buildings Insurance – what is not covered
- They will not cover wet rot, dry rot or frost damage.
- Damage to your home which has been caused over time.
- They not pay for any fences, hedges or gates damaged in a storm.
- Any claims for poor workmanship or faulty design.

Content Insurance

Garden re-landscaping
If the plants and trees in your garden or damaged or stolen, AVIVA will pay to re-landscape your garden and put things right.
Replacement locks
As with the Buildings cover, AVIVA will replace keys and locks to external doors if you no longer can find your keys or they get stolen. They will pay up to a £1 000.
Optional Add-ons
If you want you can have additional add-ons to your home insurance including: Home Emergency (Labour, parts and material), and Legal Services.
Contents Insurance – what is not covered
Anything that is shown in the general exclusions including:
- Gradual wear and tear.
- Breakdown or faults – such as boilers and home appliances.
- Faulty material or workmanship.
