1. Barnsley

Overview

Barnsley is a large town in South Yorkshire. It is close to Manchester and Leeds. Although some parts of the town is deprived but there are lots of good neighbourhoods. Barnsley. Even though, the standard of living is not as good as neighbouring Manchester and Leeds, Barnsley still has a lot going for it.

According to an Indeed findings, as reported in the Guardian, in 2021 Barnsley posted the UK’s strongest growth in job opportunities.

2. County Durham

Overview

County Durham has picturesque locations and borers a number of counties including Northumberland and North Yorkshire. It is amongst the cheapest places in the UK to rent. However, in a survey by Indeed, it was found to be amongst the hardest place to find work in the UK. However, there is economic regeneration and the area is attracting investments and businesses.

For the rental prices we looked in the DH1 and DH6 areas of Durham, which are the cheapest places to live in Durham. This includes Durham, Shadforth and Gilesgate.

3. Aberdeen

Overview

Aberdeen is located the north east of Scotland. It is situated about 90 miles from Edinburgh. There is also the University of Aberdeen located there, so it is a student city and the third most populated city in Scotland.

Job opportunities in Aberdeen is very competitive. However, the city is thriving due to investments coming into the city. The average salary in Aberdeen is £35K a year, so you could have a good standard of living with that salary. The rent is very cheap compared to some parts of the UK.

4. Lincolnshire

Overview

Lincolnshire is in the East Midlands and has lots of coastal towns. It has picturesque towns and villages. Lincolnshire is the second largest county in England. 75.9% of people in Lincolnshire are working, so there is good opportunity to find a job.

The average salary in Lincolnshire is about £26k, which is low compared to some parts of the country. But, at least the rents are comparatively cheaper.

Overview
