What network does Plusnet Mobile use?
Plusnet Mobile is a virtual network provider, which means it does not have its own network. It uses the EE network infrastructure to deliver its mobile phone service. EE network is available for 90% of UK land coverage, which counts for 99% of the population.
However, even though it covers 90% of the UK, it will differ in various cities, towns and rural areas. Therefore, before you take out a Plusnet Mobile contract, check out their coverage in your area. You can check the coverage, here: Plusnet Coverage Checker.
Monthly Sim Only contracts
Plusnet Mobile offer monthly Sim Only deals which can be bought with various gigabytes of data, minutes and text. When you purchase a Sim, you are on a 30 day rolling contract. If you are already a Plusnet customer for their broadband, they will give you an additional 2GB of data for free.
Plusnet Mobile’s Sim Only starts at £8 per month, which comes with 8GB of data (this can vary if there is a promotion). This deal also comes with Unlimited minutes and Unlimited text.
Here are some SIM Only deals from Plusnet.
Get Deal | Provider | Monthly | Data | Calls, Text | Contract |
---|---|---|---|---|---|

Get Deal | Plusnet | £10 | 15GB | Unlimited | 30 day contract |

Changing plans
With a Plusnet Mobile Sim only you are on a 30 day rolling contract which means you can keep on the same contract or change contract after the 30 days. This option gives you excellent flexibility.
Bolt-ons
Plusnet Mobile provides the option to buy extra data, minutes or text to Sim Only plans with their Bolt-ons. For example, you can buy an additional 500MB of monthly data for £4 per month. Or an extra 100 monthly minutes for £1.50 per month. Check out all the latest prices for data, minutes and text Bolt-ons, here: Bolt-ons.
Control you spending per month with Smart Cap
Plusnet Mobile enables you to put a Smart Cap on your Sim plan so you can control your monthly spending. You can choose how much cap you would like to put onto your monthly contract. As an example, If you put on a cap for £5, then your usual monthly contract will not go over by more than £5. This is excellent, because it means you will not get any nasty, unexpected amounts as your bill. You don’t have to worry about your bill, whether you are in the UK or abroad.
Pay as you go
Plusnet Mobile do not offer a traditional Pay as you go Sim.
Switching over to Plusnet Mobile
Switching over to Plusnet Mobile can be done with their 3 steps to switching. Get detail, here: 3 steps to switching.
Want to keep your number
Plusnet Mobile will do their best to let you keep your mobile number, but sometimes it is not possible. When that is the case, they will let you know before you switch over to them.
Plusnet Wifi Hotspots
As BT owns Plusnet, they are using the BT Openzone wireless for the hotspots. So, wherever there are BT Openzone wireless hotspots, you can join. This is handy when you want to go onto the internet free, when you are out and about. To find a BT Openzone hotspot, go here: Find a hotspot.
Plusnet Customer service
This is the phone number to contact Plusnet Mobile Customer Service: 0800 423 0200. Or you can call 500 from your Plusnet Mobile.
Customer ratings
On Trustpilot, Plusnet gets 1.4 stars from ratings by customers, which is bad. And, checking reviews on different sites gives a similar picture. However, Plusnet Mobile have stated on their site that they have won the ‘Best Network for Customers Service’ award in 2020.
Conclusion
In this Plusnet Mobile review and network coverage, we have looked at a number of topics. There are good prices available for monthly contracts starting at £6 for 4GB of data. We particularly like their Smart Cap, which stops you from getting any nasty, unexpected amounts for your bill. If you are a Plusnet Broadband customer you will get an additional 2GB of data free with any contract. However, 5G is not yet available, only 3G and 4G. And, their customer service has conflicting reviews. On a positive, they use the EE infrastructure to deliver their mobile service, which means you will get good coverage across the UK.
